The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Matthew 1: 1
A remarkable start of the gospel! As much as it feels anticlimactic, it is in fact very climactic. The not so obvious reason is that it resembles the turning points mentioned in Genesis. ( i.e. This is the book of the generations of Adam Genesis 5:1). There are several of those markers identifying turning points. Matthew knowing them, shows that in Jesus Christ God makes a new beginning, unlike the one of Adam. This is different and good news. As we get into the season of remembering the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ, it is good to be reminded of the excitement, even as it shows in the beginning of that long list of 3 x 14 generations.
