“though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. 4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.” Psalm 46: 3-4
Roaring seas and a river. Two images. The seas are the nations raging. The river is about salvation flowing from the sanctuary. What a powerful statement. As we live in the midst of a raging world, we find joy in the sanctuary. These words give comfort, as the psalm states: The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
